We have limited hives available for 2017. Filling out this form does not guarantee you bees. A $300 deposit is required to reserve the bees. Once the hive is placed on your property, a $75 monthly fee will be charged for 1 year. The price for each hive includes a full hive setup with bees, care and maintenance of bees and hives, all beekeeping services for the bees, a 2 lb honey share and a beeswax share which includes a candle or raw beeswax. All bees, products and equipment remain property of Beverly Bees. This is an annual hive contract with an option to renew at the end of 12 months.
Hive Hosting is only available to residents of Northeast Massachusetts.
As a benefit of hosting a hive for us you will get two pounds of honey per hive when the bees have a surplus of honey to harvest. If the hive fails or does not make enough stores to survive the winter you will receive two pounds of honey from one of the other hives in our program. All of our honeybee colonies are treatment free, which means we do not use any pesticides or chemicals inside the hive. Honey from these hives is raw and free of beekeeper applied additives, just as nature intended.
You also need to agree not to spray any pesticides or chemicals in your yard or garden, which also includes tree care, lawn care companies, fungicides, herbicides etc. Unfortunately these things can kill or harm bees. Even at nonlethal levels they may be stored by the bees in the hive and pesticide buildup inside the hive is not healthy for the bees.
In the unlikely event that you or someone from your household gets stung, We also need to ask you to verify that there are no known bee sting allergies in your household.
All host a hive applicants are required to exempt out of mosquito spraying every year by sending a letter to Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources, per CMR 333 13.03
Hosting a hive is a great way to help increase the honeybee population in your local area. Honeybees are struggling in modern society due to pesticides, mono crops, diseases and pests. By hosting a honeybee hive in your own backyard, you can do your part to help save the bees one colony at a time.
If you can answer these questions in the form below - agree not to spray pesticides in your yard and verify your household is bee sting allergy free, and you are located in Northeastern, MA, your information will be reviewed and someone will contact you to set up a time to take a look at your yard and verify that it is suitable for housing a bee colony.
We look forward to talking with you and hope to be able to provide you with lots of buzzing new friends this year!
